Last of a Dying Shear: North Point
Another aging relic. First there was grief- the days of Hong Kong Barbers are numbered. But after getting my mop taken care of in the finest of ways at Kiu Kwun Barber Shop my grief unflinchingly turned to a depressive cocktail stirred by anger with no acceptance on the side. There's more of me invested into Hong Kong barbers now- strands of my hair take refuge in the bright corners and I'm even suspicious a few of the Kiu Kwun white coats recognized me on my last visit.
If there was a fountain of youth I would install a tap of it at Kiu Kwan. Though I'm afraid that would do little to preserve the shop. The first thing you notice upon entering the shop is the idle blizzard of white coats, sitting around in boredom. Like these distinguished barbers their customer base is also aging, unable to find the energy to get out of their favorite chair. Their hair grows long and or eventually, like them, disappears.

| old day of a good old boy. Notice the neighboring salon whose hedge-poof perms will outlive Kiu Kwan's gentleman's cut. How did this happen? |

Last of a dying shear: Sham Shui Po
Like the corner houses of Hong Kong, the Shanghai style barbers are aging relics with no heir apparent. It would be a noble goal to search out and take a couple pictures of the few Shanghai barbers that remain, but for some I'm afraid it's too late for pictures. They've retired with their shears, one good comb, and plastic tub of brylcreem to the crematorium.
